The Little Red Schoolhouse needs your help

"To reach real peace in the world, we will have to begin with the children."

Mahatma Gandhi

Through the hard work and dedication of our current and alumni families, LCNS has met the needs of children and families for 75 years years.  We are proud of the friendships, supportive environment, and history that make LCNS a vibrant cooperative community.  When you contribute to LCNS, you can see your money at work each day supporting children and families through scholarships, development of programs, maintenance of our much-loved building, and a creative curriculum.

We’re doing a lot of work to get back to the financial standing we were in before the pandemic.

In the last three years, we have decreased class sizes to give our students more individual attention, have been fighting the increasing cost of everything, and, as of June of this year, are no longer receiving pandemic related funding.

We have an energized board and community putting in the work to create more income streams.

  • LCNS was selected as one of 5 nonprofits in Lawrence to be recipients of funds raised by the St Patrick's Day Parade committee and related events!

  • We are researching and planning to apply for more grants to add new equipment to our outdoor space and address building upgrades (like solar!) in the coming years.

  • We are engaging local businesses through our Community Partner program.

  • The Development Committee host a Family Gala to benefit our teachers in December 2023.

  • MusicFest will return in April 2024!

But we could use your help as we implement these fundraising operations.

Donations

Donations can be made via check or GiveButter. You can also mail checks to 645 Alabama Street, Lawrence KS 66044. Checks should be made out to Lawrence Community Nursery School.

Direct donations support our daily operations, including our scholarship fund and teacher salaries, but they may also be designated for a specific purpose by the donor, such as new playground equipment, teacher bonuses, etc.  As a federally recognized 501(c)(03), contributions made to LCNS are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Endowment Fund

Donating to the LCNS Endowment Fund will help ensure LCNS is here for years to come.  Endowed funds are managed by the Douglas Country Community Foundation and their use is restricted.  The income from these invested funds help keep LCNS on solid financial footing.  Contributions to endowment can be made directly to LCNS with a designation of “Endowment”.

Community Rewards

You can support LCNS with every purchase at Dillon's (or any other Kroger store) through the Dillon's Community Rewards program. Here's how to participate:

  • If you aren’t automatically redirected, go to “My Account” and scroll down to click on "Community Rewards“

  • In the search bar, search for "Lawrence Community Nursery School“

  • Click the "Enroll" button

  • Go to the “Profile” section and make sure your phone number (or whatever else you use for your Dillons ID) is linked to your account as an Alt ID

  • Buy a bunch of stuff at Dillon's and scan your card/enter your phone number!

Tell your family and friends, near and far - this will work at any Kroger store.
