The Little Red Schoolhouse needs your help
“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”
Since 1948, LCNS has been an integral part of the Lawrence community, where generations of families have enrolled their children and had the experience of a village raising and educating children together.
From its creation, LCNS has existed as a parent-led cooperative, serving the families of Lawrence and Douglas County through excellence in preschool education and child development. As a non-profit organization, the school relies on the efforts of our volunteer Board of Directors, the time and participation of parents, and our dedicated and talented teachers to continue our mission.
For decades, LCNS finances have been sustained by tuition, community events and fundraisers. In recent years, our annual budget has been designed so that at full family enrollment, the school is self-sustaining and we can successfully operate on a balanced budget.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how we are able to do things
The COVID pandemic has been extremely challenging for our school. Our amazing teachers have done remarkable work in responding to the needs of our families, and putting safety measures in place to allow us to operate within shifting health conditions and continued advice from local authorities and the health department.
However, restrictions on class sizes, combined with the changing and uncertain employment and K-12 situations for our families have created a financial situation we could not have prepared for.
Because of the pandemic, we are unable to operate at full enrollment, therefore we cannot rely on the tuition income that we would normally receive.
Even with some financial relief through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) in Spring 2020, this prolonged and unprecedented situation means LCNS is facing a budget deficit that threatens our ability to achieve our mission, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.
You Can Help!
Help us combat the financial challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a donation to our 1st Annual Fundraising Campaign. You can help ensure the school's continuation through this pandemic.
Lawrence Community Nursery School is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
An Emergency Response:
Our 1st Annual Fundraising Campaign
In response to these unique challenges, and for the first time in our history, we are implementing an Annual Fundraising Campaign for the Lawrence Community Nursery School.
We are asking for our community's help to ensure LCNS can withstand the financial challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, with a pledge of financial support.
With your help, this effort will see us through the current crisis, and will ensure the survival of the Little Red Schoolhouse for future generations of preschoolers and their families.
This request is new for us and our need is great, so please consider a pledge of support now that will allow us to continue our efforts to offer affordable in-person and virtual school options to our families during this time.
A sustaining gift to LCNS will ensure that we are equipped for the future in an uncertain world. If there’s anything this year has taught us, it’s that anything can happen. Only the continued support of the thoughtful and committed citizens of our LCNS community can help us keep our school open and thriving, for generations to come.
