  Prospective Families

Why a coop?

  • Children are taught the skills they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond.

  • Parents have the opportunity to use their skills in the classroom, on the board of directors, and on committees, allowing for the exploration of new skills.

  • For some parents, the chance to observe skilled teachers relating to children in various situations helps them gain insights and skills at home.

  • Parents and children enjoy the friendships that grow among member families.

Cooperative Duties

  • Parent classroom participation, including providing a snack and cleanup duties
(1-2 times per month, depending on days child is enrolled)

  • Weekend cleaning of school
    (1 weekend per semester)

  • Fall and Spring workdays
(2 hours of work on a specific day each semester)

  • Committee Work
(Each family serves on 1 committee, see Committee Descriptions)

  • Fundraising
(2 hour shift at annual Spring Music Fest fundraiser)

  • General Membership Meetings
(1 mandatory meeting held each semester)

COVID-19 Safety Plan

To help keep our children, staff and families safe during the current COVID-19 pandemic, we have developed the following plan:

  • Smaller groups of children (15 starting Summer 2021).

  • Limited access to the building, and anyone who enters the building should wear a mask. We encourage and help the children wear masks if Douglas County is not in the green(low cases)

  • Teachers, parents and children will be wearing masks if covid cases are high

  • Hand sanitizer and wipes are available at all entrances/exits to the building.

  • Mass-sharing activities like sensory table will not be used.

  • Each child will have his or her own personal play dough.

  • Centers and snack groups will be 2-3 people at a table

  • Every child has a water bottled labeled with their name

  • Check-in procedure has been implemented for each child and staff members,  including taking temperatures daily

  • Common areas to be cleaned frequently

  • Daily toys will be disinfected or alternated to make sure toys get cleaned after each class use.

  • Lots more outdoor activities.

  • Lots of hand-washing!!!

  • Updated KDHE guidelines require that a child must be fever-free, without use of medication, for 24 hours before returning to school.

  • We are also expecting families to communicate to us and keep you child home for 10 days  if they travel to a high-risk COVID-19 area, come in contact with a person that has COVID-19, or are experiencing any symptoms like shortness of breath, coughing, lack of smell or taste, or fever. It is very important that families let us know these things so we can do our best to keep our whole LCNS community safe.

  • Upon request, tuition credits will be given when a child must be absent from school for an extended period of time for COVID-19 related concerns.

  • Parent Participation Changes: Families  will provide an unopened snack to be opened and prepared at snack time, and fresh fruit and vegetables are always great!

As a coop, our school also abides by the LCNS ByLaws and Standing Rules. Members of our parent-run administrative board are also bound by our LCNS Board Code of Ethics.

Tuition

Cost of tuition varies according to the number of days per week your child attends.

  • 3 days per week (MWF) = $180/month

  • 2 days per week (T/TH) = $125/month

Families can enroll anytime throughout the year and spaces are offered immediately upon availability. In general, admission to LCNS is on a first-come, first-served basis. However,  priority is given to current students, siblings of current students, previous members, and long-standing applications in that order.  This is achieved by allowing current members to confirm spots before the school is filled with any new applicants. For example, current families who would like their children to attend in the fall have an early deadline, in the spring, to confirm that they would like a spot for the following year.

Following this deadline, remaining spots will be filled by new students. To enroll in our program you fill out an enrollment form, (found in our forms section), and return it to the school with a $100 deposit and a non-refundable $35 application fee.  Once your form and fees are turned in you will be notified as to whether or not there is a space for your child or that your child is on our wait list.  If at anytime you would like to be taken off the wait list, simply contact the school’s director via email and your deposit will be returned.
